It is getting hotter now that winter is over. The last day of winter sprang straight into summer with a blazing humid sun and insects that crave human flesh. I went out looking into the deep back woods of No Name Key off the beaten path for any signs of newborn deer as now is the season. No scat, no tiny heart footprints, only pinewoods and spiders.
Outside my house every morning there are hundreds of songbirds in the trees. Red-winged blackbirds, grackles, and doves all wait for a turn at some of the only fresh water available to drink and bathe.
