The deer eat cactus, too. Notice the bites taken from the leaves. They actually get water from eating the plant.

This deer, found in the woods on the trail, is of a wilder variety than the subdivision deer. Right after I snapped this shot I noticed a bat skittering in and out of the trees. It was just as interested in me as I in it, and it actually approached me so closely that I had to raise my walking stick to prevent it from getting closer. No photos, though. There are 13 different species of bats living in the Keys.

Something amusingly ironic when I come home after being out on the island with my camera and three Key Deer are in my driveway, blocking my entrance.

The deer were in my yard resting underneath the shade of the palm trees, attempting to escape the scorching and humid 90 degree sun.
