The bucks have shed their antlers and new black stubs are emerging while they engage in the most peaceful stage of the Key Deer world I call Brotherly Love. As they participate in grooming behavior towards one another it is difficult to imagine that five months ago they were fighting to the death over the herds’ females during the rut. Now the does are in the woods giving birth and caring for the newborn fawns well hidden from sight until they are about one month old, when they will join the herd again.
