The odds were good that I would find the herd of bucks at the hang-out in the middle of this sweltering hot summer day, where the trees provide shade and the resident human provides bird food.
One antler is missing already before the rut has arrived. The deer will fight over food the residents leave out and this is probably what happened to the guy on the right.
