Born dark or white for life, this Reddish Egret might resemble a Great Egret but the color of the beaks are different. The white Reddish Egret once outnumbered the reds, but were slaughtered for their feathers to near extinction in the late 1800’s before they became protected.

So sad 🙁 What where their feathers used for that made them so valuable.
The feathers were used for women’s hats, which were very fashionable at the time.
