Rutting season continues. The buck in the background was causing a frenzy as he was chasing four or five other deer present, including females. He was chasing the boys away so he could have the girls all to himself.
He stops chasing the doe for a tropical fruit snack. The bucks consume enormous amounts of energy and calories to win the females.
Here is an example of a doe and her male offspring still together weeks after the spots on the fawn have disappeared. There are mama’s boys even in the deer world. It won’t be long before the leader of the herd chases him away.
I don’t want to get in his way. He’s tough, he’s beautiful, he’s strong, and he knows it!
Although this doe was running away from the buck her tail was up and she was emitting a strong scent to entice him.
